Akhal-Teke horse

Akhal-Teke horse

The Akhal-Teke horse, or Akhal-Teke horse (Turkm. Ahal-teke aty), is a riding breed of horses bred on the territory of modern Turkmenistan (Ahal-Teke) presumably about 5000 years ago.

This is the oldest of the cultivated breeds, which influenced many breeds — the Arabian, thoroughbred riding (or English racing, English Thoroughbred) and others. It belongs, along with the thoroughbred riding and Arabian, to the number of thoroughbred breeds, as it is a reference riding horse and has not crossed with other breeds for 5000 years. It is well adapted to a dry hot climate and perfectly acclimatizes in other conditions. In the literature there are names Akhal-Teke, Teke or Turkmen horse.
