Cultural and entertainment center «Alem» (turkmen. «Älem» medeni dynç alyş merkezi) is located in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan). The total height of the center is 95 meters. The indoor ferris wheel, installed inside the center, with a diameter of the outer circle of 57 meters, is the largest in the world.
History
Opposite the center, the main New Year tree of the country is annually installed.
Description
The total height of the structure is 95 meters with a spire, it is a stepped pyramid, on which rises a Ferris wheel with an outer circle diameter of 57 meters. This is the largest closed Ferris wheel in the world, listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
In total, the building of the center has 6 levels, 7 meters each, including 2 underground ones. The total area of the center is about 26 thousand m².
Space museum
The Space Museum is located on the ground floor of the center. The museum displays models of the spacecraft and the solar system. Visitors can take a virtual journey on a spaceship through the expanses of the universe, «walk» on the surface of the moon or any other planet. The monitors of the museum display the characteristics of the planets of the solar system and their satellites.
Ferris wheel
The Ferris wheel installed above the restaurant of the Alem center is designed for 24 six-seater cabins. The steel construction of the Ferris wheel is decorated in the shape of the star of Oguz Khan and openwork decorations in the form of national ornaments-gels, reminiscent of a sundial dial topped with a 17-meter spire. Special equipment maintains an optimal microclimate inside the cabins. Observation platforms are also equipped on the terraces of the base pyramid, which, in turn, is located on the granite stepped platform of the entire structure.
